Houston - we have lift off!

We did it - we left!

Goodbye Sydney, adios Bondi, au revoir weekend traffic, see ya check out queues, $14 lunches, $10 beers, weekend parking and double shot long skinny macchiato’s.

Thanks family, friends and colleagues for your encouragement and support. As much as we love our Sydney life, taking stock, slowing down and seeing our big sandy country is going to be a memorable and awesome adventure!!

Did I say goodbye weekend traffic J

The last few weeks were hectic. Packing our apartment, wrapping up work, finishing the car and camper, not to mention the endless lists, organising and packing/unpacking/repacking whilst keeping a 2 and 5 year old entertained (with a little help from Grandma).

Day 1 we drove 500km north and arrived at our first bush camp in Delicate Nobby, metres from the beach south of Crescent Head near Point Plomer.  Its ideal. Wonderful spacious camp setting, beautiful beaches, outstanding surfing, dolphins, hot showers, sunshine and plenty of other like-minded folk. In fact, within minutes of arriving the kids had friended our neighbour's 2 and 4 year old kids. We’ll cross paths again in Byron and will be sure to pick up the conversation on the weekly Aldi ‘special’ buys J and the nutters that turn up to queue on Saturday mornings around the nation (are you one?).

We favoured pitching our tent night one to avoid the 3-hour camper setup. It was a long day driving and the quick camp (i.e. the tent) was set-up in a flash and the four of us cozied in for the night.

I write this as we anticipate the first deluge on night 5 that’s meant to hang around a week. We’ll need to adapt and it’ll be nice to see how the camper holds up in rain so bring it on.

Hope you follow and enjoy our blog as we journey for the next 9 months around Australia. Feel free to comment or provide hints and tips along the way.
