Noosa

Noosa was the sole fixture on the pre-xmas travel schedule where we’d planned to celebrate my good mate Greer’s 40th.

We’d booked an Airbnb for the party weekend (thought it might be a stretch asking a baby sitter to ‘meet us at the camp ground’), but had a few days to kill before we checked in. We researched our options on the road north and landed on camping on Noosa North Shore; a 40-mile beach that stretches to Double Island, Rainbow Beach and onto Inskipp - gateway to Fraser Island.

Unfortunately we missed the 4.30 check-in. Luckily the party hosts Greer and Dave were kind enough to send us a lifeline and put us up for the night at their awesome home. One night turned into 2 as the heavens opened and the Sunshine Coast got a good soak.

Stretches of sunshine allowed for a cracking few days relaxing and paddling in the Noosa River with Greer and the kids, hanging by the pool, watching the cricket and surfing at Tea Tree Bay in Noosa National Park with my great mate Nicky B. It was actually really great to have an intimate catch up before they rolled out the red carpet for the VIP’s flying in from far and wide.

After a couple restful days we braved the weather and spent a night on Noosa North Shore, mostly in the pouring rain in our tent. Most memorable for me actually came during the night as I relieved myself against a bush. Clouds had parted to reveal the a new moon and the brilliance of the Milky Way. It was stunning. I very nearly woke the kids to share my amazement. We sadly miss the beautiful night sky and stars living in Sydney.

Saturday back at our awesome Airbnb and party night festivities ensued and were awesome, playing into the wee hours kicking on back at the Neil’s. It was great to catch up with my old school crew and celebrate another milestone birthday.

Noosa is a real gem where I could definitely live supported by centrelink benefits.

A final night on Noosa North-shore with Kirstie, Wayland, son Woody and we were ready for the onward journey to Fraser. And what a spectacular spot!
